I grew up in Southern Vietnam, where Vietnamese and Chinese herbal medicine and dietetics were essential to my upbringing. But it wasn't until my older daughter, Sydney, was diagnosed with autism that I became interested in learning Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. This amazing medicine has done a miracle for my daughter's indigestion and insomnia.
I hope I can offer you the same effective care. I will listen carefully to your condition and create a practical treatment plan for your lifestyle. I'll ensure you feel safe and well during treatment.
I'd like to share a little about myself if you're interested. Growing up, I competed in soccer, hacky sack, and martial arts, so I understand how important it is to keep our bodies strong and our muscles supple. I have my fair share of injuries from taking care of my special needs child, who is almost as big as I am. I feel your ache and pain and the long nights you care for your babies. I can help. I've also been an avid rock climber indoors and outdoors for 18 years, teaching yoga for 14 years, and treating injuries and chronic pain for over 30 years using Shaolin martial arts channels and fascial techniques I learned from my master, Thay An (Teacher An).
I'm forever grateful for Thay An & Thay Kim, Steven Woodley, Sean Si, Julie Zhu, Nick Hancock, Robyn Sodders, Aaron Lee, Jamie Hampton, Josh Lerner, and many more, who have taught me almost everything I know. My father, who passed away, advised me from a young age that when I become a doctor, I should treat patients from the heart and never nurture illness.
You wouldn't believe how many times my dad went to see a doctor and came home with medication that had their package removed; he had no idea which medication he was taking and how long it would take him to recover. He returned to his doctor weekly. You will keep me informed about what I'm doing and my treatment plan. I'd never give you an herbal prescription that you need to take for months or years. My mission is to get you well and send you back out to the world of joy, family, and friends. Please don't go and party too hard, though.
As much as I love being in this community and sharing my love of medicine seven days a week (I really do!), I take much-needed time off Saturday and Sunday to be with my young daughters (9-year-old Sydney who inspired me to acupuncture and 4-year-old Emily who did part of our logo). They grow up too fast! I love food and coffee (hello, Java!) very much.
I specialize in pelvic health, neuropathy, pain and aches during pregnancy, and chronic fatigue.

My passion is Palliative Medicine, which provides specialty medical care for seriously ill people to relieve their suffering and improve their quality of life. Patients often experience side effects from Western medications that are prescribed to palliate the symptoms of their serious medical illness. My patients' experiences led me to find a more holistic approach that relieves patients' suffering while reducing the likelihood of side effects. Palliative medicine is a holistic approach that specializes in treating the entire person. Patients are evaluated for their physical, emotional, and spiritual suffering.
I first experienced Traditional Chinese Medicine when it successfully treated my headaches. This inspired me to learn more about Traditional Chinese medicine. After studying Tung acupuncture, I used these techniques to help patients in the clinic, hospital, and skilled nursing facility. It relieved their pain and suffering while they recovered from their illness. My patients were often surprised and very happy that their pain and symptoms improved without the constipation, nausea, and sedation that sometimes occur with narcotic pain medication. However, acupuncture is the Yang to the Yin, Chinese Herbal medicine. This inspired me to pursue herbal studies and eventually a California Acupuncture Board tutorial to become a licensed acupuncturist.
As I pursued my studies and advocated for including Chinese Herbal Medicine in my practice, I met resistance from many Western allopathic-trained physicians. Upon further investigation, I determined that this resistance is primarily due to a lack of knowledge. Many allopathic physicians are interested in learning about Traditional Chinese Medicine and, upon further education, are willing to use it for themselves and their families.
With the advent of COVID-19, many physicians have become increasingly interested in Chinese medicine. They were concerned about getting sick with COVID-19 and subsequently infecting other people. My colleagues requested that I teach them about Traditional Chinese Medicine to help them stay healthy. They were already familiar with Western Lifestyle Medicine but did not understand how Traditional Chinese Medicine utilizes many similar principles. At their request, I created a lecture in which I presented Traditional Chinese Lifestyle medicine with applications specific to reducing their risk of contracting COVID-19. This presentation was subsequently well received at the five medical centers I presented virtually via online presentations.
Subsequently, I determined that along with my passion for Palliative Medicine, I also love teaching patients, students, and clinicians. I am incredibly excited to discover that the Five Branches DAOM program specializes in Chinese Psychology and Trauma, Pain Management, and Chinese Herbal medicine. This program catalyzes my palliative medicine practice to the next level in providing symptom relief to palliative medicine patients. I also look forward to the DAOM program enriching my ability to educate patients, students, and clinicians about Traditional Chinese Medicine.
